More Than A Surface Level Concern

Do you have a skin care routine?

Do you know what a skin care routine consist of?

Do you know your skin type?

How many times a day do you wash your face?

How many times a day do you touch your face?

How often do you disinfect your phone before putting it against your face?

I have recently taken a survey and came to the conclusion that many young women lack a skin care routine. I have determined that the lack there of is because many women do not fully understand the benefits of a tailored skin care regimen, and to put it plainly-how deep the matter really is!

Skin care is more than a surface level concern. Beautiful skin begins with a healthy skin care. It Is important to have a proper skincare routine because our skin is the largest barrier and first defense against infection, it is also our first outward impression. Keeping our skin healthy and moist strengthens our skin which Makes our skin look well longer.

Our skin cells shed daily. They turn into little things called “dust”. Kinda gross, right? Think about how much dust you might have lying around your daily life! It is important to note that skin types vary, what might work for you might not work for someone else. Its imperative to decifer what type of skin you have first and foremost then work your routine around it accordingly. This will enable you to determine what types of products to buy, what is good or bad for your skin , and ultimately learn a little more about yourself. It allows you to cater to your own personal needs. Sounds kinda sexy right?! The key to having resilient skin is knowing your skin type and treating it accordingly. Oily skin, for example, can benefit from lightweight, oil-free products. Trial and error may be the best way to figure it out-honestly. How your skin looks in the future depends on how you care for it now. In order to preserve your skin and have beautiful skin 20 or 30 years into the future; starting NOW would be best! (No pressure though) You want to look good at 50? or even still have that glow at 60? Well this is the best kept secret.

On the contrary, bad skin care harms your skin and can have long term damaging effects. Its easier to prevent than to fix skin issues such as acne. Developing a skin care routine can prevent trips to the dermatologist or even the plastic surgeon! A skin care routine is a healthy habit to develop which encourages other healthy routines in your life. It also gives you a great sense of confidence by putting your best face foreward.  And not to mention helps your makeup look better on.

A skin care routine might sound like a lot but it could be as simple as a particular face wash or moisturizing serum. Skin types typically are either dry or oily or a combination of both. Your skin could be dryer in the winter and oiler in the summer. The first step after determining your skin type is to determine what makes for a healthy skin care routine tailored for you. Below are the tools you’ll need generally and an explanation of what they are. Your skincare regimen could include one or a combination of all.

Cleanser
A Cleanser is what you will use to wash your face and it’s important to use a product intended for your face. Besides our hands, feet, our face is also the most exposed to germs on a regular! Air pollution, someone sneezing or touching your face all effect the cleanliness of your face. So cleansing is important!

Exfoliant
Exfoliating does best to help prevent our skin from being too dull because of the dying and shedding skin cells. It’s the key to keeping smooth and fresh skin.

Toner
Toner is applied after washing your face and can smooth, soften, and calm skin by removing excess residue after cleansing. They contain ingredients that can restore nutrients to your skin. (I personally love toners because certain types help to create an even skin tone and help with the disappearance of blemishes).

Moisturizer
Moisturizer is applied after toner, and in order for skin to look healthy and repair itself it has to be moisturized. Moisturizers prevent your skin from drying out leaving your skin hydrated and smooth.

Serums
Serums are another great addition to your skin care routine! Serums contain ingredients like vitamin C or retinol that support skin health. I think of it as supplements for your skin in liquid form. I tend to think of serums as next level skin care. They can do a range of wonderful things for your skin, such as letting your beautiful skin obtain a glow or appear smoother.

Sunscreen
Sunscreen is important in many aspects. If skin cancer and sun damage aren’t enough to convince you-then I don’t know what will, lol. UV exposure is the number one cause of wrinkles and uneven skin tones. Some sunscreen will not hurt all year round especially if your a believer in global warming and dangerous UV rays.

The list goes on to include face masks and skin peels.

Depending on the weather you may want to adjust your skin care routine or not, this can just mean the difference between using a little more or a little less moisturizer.

Without proper skin care you can expect acne, wrinckles, uneven skin tones, blemished skin, deep lines, dry skin, and dull skin... to name a few.
Skin care not only applies to your face but also your body! Exfoliating and moisturizing it is important for your whole body as well. It helps promote smoother skin and a healthy natural glow. Get those feet too!

Pocket Mirror

Always keep that thang on you!  These people are not for you, Sis! When you have a booger in your nose or eye people won’t tell you, but rather stare at it back and forth pretending not to notice. Check yourself every hour! OK, that’s a bit excessive but every so often to make sure those edges are in place, them eyelashes haven’t gave out on you and to make sure that Lippie is on correct. It’s imperative! A true fashionista always carries a pocket mirror in her purse.  I only want the best for you.  Love you, Love Chi

Black And Proud!

Lets start with the basics. I mean the BASIC of basics, our all time favorite color….BLACK! Now I’m certainly not here to discourage you from wearing your favorite pair of black jeans or favorite black dress, but lets be real here - Black don’t crack and it is certainly timeless!  I personally started my fashion escapades by wearing black frequently. Wearing black made me more comfortable with experimenting with other colors, to be honest. I find nothing more comfortable than wearing all black but, with a pop of color! It’s still my ultimate go-to to this day. I want to challenge you to think outside of the box when it comes to wearing black. Don’t stick with basic black t-shirts , or basic black jeans. Think, black ripped jeans for a grunge look, or a black lace blouse to add a little sexy to spruce up the black collection a bit. I find that these items usually can become wardrobe staples. Also, while we are sitting on top of the box, shy away from all black
